Spotlight on... Nugent

This week, find out more about Nugent, one of the oldest and most diverse charities in the North West and how they have been supporting our community.

Christmas seems such a long tie ago. We hope you were able to spend time with your family and friends. Did you receive a special gift this year? Who gave you that gift and what was it that made it special?

We received so many gifts during Christmas and we were bowled over by the generosity of our supporters and donors. Children in our schools donated over 1000 toys, the smiles on the faces of the children as they handed over their toys at the carol concerts in the cathedral was a joy to witness. Many schools made up shoeboxes filled to the brim with toiletries, hats, scarfs and Christmas goodies. Cars kept arriving at Nugent with their boots crammed full of donations and in all, over 650 shoeboxes were donated. One kind lady knitted and donated 5 bags of hats, scarfs and gloves to help keep people warm this winter.

The gifts that were donated were distributed to hundreds of individuals and families from Liverpool who are living in poverty. Businesses visited our care homes and spent time with people living with dementia; some of them came dressed up and provided entertainment!

So many people gave us the gift of time, the gift of generosity, the gift of friendship and financial gifts. Days before Christmas, we were able to buy a cooker for a grandmother who looks after her grandchildren, she had to flee her home because of domestic violence and the new home didn't have a cooker. The family were able to sit down and enjoy Christmas lunch together because of one generous donor.

Nugent has been working in the city of Liverpool since 1881. Every year we support over 6000 people; this could be in one of our care homes for older people or people with disabilities, or by finding forever families for children in the care system through our adoption work. We run special schools for young people who have emotional and behavioural issues; we support isolated people to re-engage with their community and lots more!

Every gift is important and valuable to us, whether it is a legacy gift, a small donation or a gift of time. Your gift means that we can continue to be there for vulnerable and marginalised people for the next 135 years.
